Meet the team

Our team combines deep industry knowledge with hands-on experience, enabling us to deliver tailored solutions in power transmission, renewables, infrastructure, and beyond.

Andrew Caine

Group CEO

Andy is the founder and CEO of AWC Group, bringing over two decades of hands-on construction experience to the business. Starting his career as a trainee engineer while studying Civil Engineering part-time in Leeds, Andy worked his way up through Site and Project Management roles, with a particular focus on Power & Distribution. From National Grid infrastructure to offshore wind schemes, he’s been at the helm of some of the UK’s most critical energy projects.

Andy’s approach is rooted in safety, quality, and doing right by clients—values that shape everything AWC delivers today.

When he’s not leading the business, Andy’s likely cheering on a football match or checking the racing form. He lives near Harrogate with his family and their loyal dog, Thor – who, unlike his namesake, prefers naps over thunder.

Lucy Caine

Director

Lucy keeps the AWC engine running smoothly behind the scenes—balancing operations, accounts, and just enough chaos to keep things interesting. With a background in national property sales and a passion for property development, she’s always had an eye for business and big ideas. After starting a family, Lucy joined forces with Andy to build AWC from the ground up. These days, she’s proud of the team, grateful for the growth, and still occasionally shows off her golf swing (she once played for Lincolnshire Girls U18s and can still out-drive Andy on a good day).

Kurt Wagner

Divisional Manager

Kurt leads the day-to-day operations of our recruitment division, managing the team and client relationships with precision and a healthy dose of humour. With over 15 years of experience in recruitment, he brings a wealth of expertise across both civil engineering and tech – working with everyone from boots-on-the-ground site staff to C-suite execs.

He’s passionate about business, fascinated by the inner workings of our clients’ projects, and always keen to learn something new. At AWC, Kurt thrives on the energy and drive of the team around him. Outside of work, you’ll likely find him outdoors, reminiscing about his hockey days playing for Leeds, running triathlons (voluntarily), or watching Manchester United with lifelong loyalty (and sometimes frustration).

Deborah Casey

Group Finance Manager

Deborah is the numbers powerhouse behind AWC Group, keeping the books balanced across all companies for the past three years. With a career in finance that spans SMEs to giants like Tesco and Autoglym – and a 20+ year stint in a major US print facility – Deborah knows her debits from her credits like the back of her hand. She thrives on challenge, loves structure, and has a surprisingly cheeky sense of humour. Her unofficial title? CFO of Gin and Spreadsheets.

Abbie Wills

Senior Recruitment Consultant

Abbie recruits skilled candidates for a range of civil construction clients and projects, helping to keep sites fully staffed and running smoothly. With a background in property and a fast-track education in recruitment courtesy of Andy Caine, she’s built solid expertise in the industry and loves being part of a fast-paced, supportive team.

Known for her big personality and big heart, Abbie is passionate about helping people land the right roles. When she’s not working, she’s jet-setting with her son, her best friend, and their kids – or enjoying a well-earned cocktail (or two), which she proudly claims as her number one hobby.

Brad Mallen

Senior Recruitment Consultant

Brad brings five years of sharp recruitment know-how and a whole lot of energy to the construction desk at AWC. With a background in sales, site visits, and all things high-vis, he’s known for getting the right people onto the right sites—fast. His clients appreciate his hustle, his candidates trust his honesty, and his gym mates? Well, they know cardio’s not his thing. Off-duty, he’s probably shouting at a football screen, cracking jokes, or offering unsolicited rugby opinions at the pub.

Alan McLucas

Senior Recruitment Consultant

Alan is AWC’s go-to guy for permanent recruitment – especially when it comes to white-collar roles in civil engineering, utilities, highways, and power. With over 38 years in the industry (yes, really), and a background as an engineer himself, Alan brings both technical insight and dry wit to the team. He enjoys the autonomy of running his own desk and appreciates AWC’s get-it-done culture. Fun fact: he’s a proud step great-grandfather – possibly the coolest title in the office, and definitely the rarest.

Melissa Donoghue

Commercial Property Manager

Melissa leads AWC Construction with grit, humour, and an impressive KPI record. From managing property maintenance for commercial and domestic clients to tackling unexpected daily surprises, she thrives on variety and pressure. She worked her way up from compliance, bringing leadership experience and a love for getting stuck in. When she’s not juggling property projects, Melissa collects rare first editions of Stephen King books and lovingly tends to her pet Venus flytraps. Because who said property managers can’t have an edge?

Bianca Howarth

Support Coordinator

Bianca is the glue behind AWC’s recruitment engine, managing everything from CV formatting and job postings to client comms and ISO audits. With a decade of recruitment experience spanning healthcare and advertising, she’s seen it all. Originally from Australia, she swapped sunshine for the UK’s “brisk” mornings – and despite occasional doubts mid-winter, she wouldn’t trade the life she’s built here with her husband and two daughters. Her motto: if it needs doing, do it properly (and with a good playlist).

Caroline McNicholas

Finance Assistant

Caroline is the behind-the-scenes pro ensuring payroll runs smoothly and the accounts stay tidy at AWC Staff Services. With a Business degree and cross-sector experience in education, housing and data protection, she brings order to even the most chaotic spreadsheets. Known for her no-nonsense approach with a soft spot for team banter, she keeps the finance wheels turning. Bonus: she can name that tune from pretty much any decade between the 50s and 90s – she’s pub quiz ready!

Thor

Office Dog & Team Mascot

Thor is AWC Group’s beloved Cavapoo and unofficial Head of Morale. A regular in the office (when he’s not out living his best countryside life), Thor takes his duties seriously – whether it’s greeting visitors at the door like a true professional, or standing on two legs to remind us all he’s basically one of the team.

Always ready for a cuddle or a lap to nap on, Thor keeps spirits high and meetings light-hearted. He’s known for making surprise appearances during Zoom calls, sneaking biscuits when no one’s looking, and providing much-needed stress relief after a long day on site.

When he’s not charming clients or supervising tea breaks, you’ll find him roaming the office with purpose – or curled up under someone’s desk, dreaming of sausages. A true team player with four paws and endless enthusiasm.

Fun Fact: He genuinely thinks he’s human (and we don’t have the heart to tell him otherwise).
